Google's Android takes Symbian's crown as the leading smartphone OS


According to Canalys, an independent technology focused analyst house, Google Android have become the world's most popular mobile operating system. In Q4 of 2010 there have been a total of an astonishing 33.3 million Android smartphones shipped, that's just one quarter. Google's success in the mobile industry have really paid off. It has been said that there are over 300,000 Android activations everyday, and this report would just prove that.

Acer flaunts the Iconia and the Iconia Tab A500 in a video - "4.8" tablet?


Announced by Acer last year in November, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 is the company's answer to the onslaught of tablets to the global market. Although, it has not yet been launched globally, the device gets a promotional video. 

BlackBerry Curve Sedona leaks with Verizon branding


The BlackBerry Curve Sedona (this will be the name I will be using with this handset from now on) was first leaked by our friends over at BGR. And then I had to post another blog about the same device but with a different codename. This time N4BB posted photos of the Curve Sedona with Verizon branding on it, or at least on the phone's OS.

Samsung Galaxy Player (YP-GB1) will be available for pre-orders starting Feb 4

Officially announced by Samsung and of course showcased at CES 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S (YP-GB1), the iPod Touch of the Android world, will officially start taking pre-orders starting February 4th until Feb 7th. This announcement came from Samsung and will only be happening in its home turf, South Korea. The Android powered Portable Music Player will be available in mid-February in both 8 GB and 16 GB versions. As to pricing, the device is pegged at 399,000 Korean Won for the 8 GB variant and 459,000 Korean Won for the 16 GB variant.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread is sick with a microSD bug


Android, touted to be the best mobile operating system to ever land on this planet is sick. The latest Android OS for smartphones, Android 2.3 Gingerbread seems to have bugs that about its microSD security. The bug allows for attackers to access your precious external memory and of course your personal information contained therein. This bug was discovered by a researcher at the North Carolina State University. Thanks to him Google should have started to look at the issue and should release an updated version of the said OS.

Nokia E7 will arrive on British shores in April?

Announced last year during the Nokia World 2010 in the UK, the E7 is set to be launched in Q1 of 2011. We've already heard a lot of news that the Nokia E7 will be launching by 2011. A lot of online shops have also listed the device on their sites.  First, we have Expansys, in the UK, taking pre-orders of the device which will start shipping by January of this year, yet we have not received any news that the phone have actually started shipping. Second is the British network carrier, Three, announcing the smartphone and said that the device will be available by Q1 of 2011. Lastly, Amazon USA, have also listed the device on their site but is still unavailable. So when will this smartphone ever start shipping?

Internet users reaches 2 billion world wide and 5 billion have mobile subscription


The United Nations International Telecommunication Union have predicted a great increase in global internet users by the end of 2010 by about 2 billion and did they hit the mark well. They have reported that the total number of internet users globally number to 2.08 billion. That number jumped from a mere 250 million users a decade ago. 555 million of the 2.08 billion have a fixed broadband internet connection and 950 million have broadband internet on their mobile phones. What is more interesting is the number of people who currently have a mobile subscription which have now passed the 5 billion mark and that is also a great leap from just 500 million from year 2000. 

LG Optimus 2x and Optimus Black listed by Amazon Germany for €499

Amazon Germany have listed two of the greatest smartphones from LG the LG Optimus Black (P970) and the LG Optimus 2x (P990). Both are priced for 499.00 Euros and both run on Android 2.2 Froyo.

Microsoft puts Windows Phone 7 support page live!


During the launching of the Windows Phone 7 OS Microsoft have said that an update will be coming within this year (or early this year) which will add the feature copy and paste, apparently not in the current version of the OS yet. So the update which is certainly coming has no exact date yet on when it will be made available. In preparation to the first update of Microsoft's latest mobile OS, they have put the Windows Phone 7 support page live.

Samsung to manufacture the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G?


T-Mobile have confirmed the Sidekick 4G together with the confirmation that the Samsung Vibrant 4G. TmoNews got some photos of an alleged Sidekick 4G which, if true, means that the next Sidekick will be made by the same manufacturer of the Vibrant 4G, Samsung.

MSI WindPad 100W now available for sale


Announced during CES 2011, the Windows based WindPad 100W is now available for $710. Simply Electronics, an online retailer which is now listing the said tablet on their website. The MSI WindPad will be the first batch of Windows based tablet that like eventually make there way into the market.

Samsung launched the 4G X430 notebook in Sweden

Samsung and Telia Sonera joined forces to launch the Samsung 4G X430 notebook in Sweden. I'm not sure if this is the world's first 4G capable notebook or even if it is Samsung's first 4G laptop, nevertheless, the notebook is now available (started on January 28th). The modem which is 4G capable is also backward compatible whicheans that it will be able to a 3G and GSM/EDGE network. 

New Facebook Messages have started rolling out globally


I just activated my second Facebook email address earlier. Yup, I have two Facebook accounts (don't tell anyone), one is a further reach of my blog and the other is for my personal and private affairs. I was lucky enough to try out the new Facebook Messages which includes an @facebook email address earlier than most of the people I knew, that was last year a few weeks after the service was announced and launched.

Microsoft to launch Internet Explorer 9 RC on February 10th


Microsoft's Internet Explorer, although still the most used browser in the world, is clinging on to it's top spot as the queen of web browsing. Hopes with the browser are still high up there and personally, I believe in Microsoft's capability to give as a browser that will truly compete with Google Chrome, Firefox, or Opera.

Sony NGP (PSP 2) will be priced lower than the PS3 also has WiFi only version


The Sony PSP2 (as what other techblogs would want to call it) will not be that expensive after all. Announced yesterday, the Sony NGP (Next Generation Portable entertainment system) boasts specs that will blow your mind. We can't just take the quad-core powered portable gaming system for granted and the fact that it has two capacitive touchpads at it's rear and not to mention the front and rear facing cameras.

Unnamed HTC smartphone gets photoed expected to be a flagship phone


An unnamed HTC smartphone got photoed and immediately uploaded on in the internet (what do you expect?). This comes after I posted about an HTC buttonless smartphone that also got photoes and also made it's way into the internet.

HTC buttonless smartphone pops on the internet


HTC have been rumored to have been cooking up something like a buttonless smartphone that will apparently feature touch screen gestures to replace those buttons that will be omitted when a device comes out without any physical buttons to press. HTC is not the only company to have been rumored with this in fact, the iPhone 5 which is a rumored device is said to be a buttonless smartphone too (as if the iPhone have a lot of buttons to omit).

Sony announces its next generation portable entertainment system - Sony NGP (PSP)



Sony's Next Generation Portable Entertainment System codenamed Sony NGP was flaunted! Remember those leaks and rumors about the next iteration of the Sony PSP portable entertainment system that feature touch screens and pad all around the device? Well they aren't really touch screens but the latest Sony PSP has touchpads everywhere!

Skype 5.0 for Mac gets out of Beta


After Skype 5 for Windows got out from its beta phase the Skype for Mac came next. The beta version of the application was released to test the latest version of Skype, group video calling. When the version went out from beta the feature was then turned into a premium service, which basically means that you have to pay for you to use group video calling. As for Mac, Skype 5 went out from its beta phase too and went with it the free group video calling and just like what happened on Windows, the feature is now a premium service.

Opera releases Opera 11.1 with stability and security updates


Opera just released the next version of their latest browser, Opera 11. The update which is Opera 11.1 is expected to improve the stability of the browser as a matter of fact I was experiencing a lot of crashes with the 11.01 version of the browser and I hope with this new update that will be a bit gone if not completely gone.


Apple releases MacOS X 10.6.7 beta to developers


On January 6th Apple have released an update to their MacOS X which was the MacOS X 10.6.6. Today, they have already released the MacOS X 10.6.7 Beta to developers. Apple have actually two versions of this beta first is the standard version and the other is the server version. Both were released and made available last nigh, and no official change log was provided. Apple have also asked developers to focus on the AirPort, Bonjour, SMB, and Graphics Drivers in testing this new beta software. Developers are also asked to test the Mac App Store together with the other stuffs that they are asked to test. This update is expected to be released soon while Mac users are waiting and excited to try out the next major MacOS X which is the MacOS X Lion (10.7) which is expected to be released this summer.

MSI puts an AMD Zacate APU on a notebook - MSI CR650


It's not only Toshiba that put inserted an AMD Zacate in a notebook  MSI also had that in mind by putting the APU on the MSI CR650 notebook. The AMD Zacate is an APU or Accelerated Processing Unit which basically means a CPU and a GPU in one chip making this technology perfect for netbooks or ultraportables. But Toshiba and MSI thinks otherwise.


Sony Ericsson Xperia Play gets previewed again


The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play gets previews again by Endgadet. This time we got some specs of the device and it seems they just confirmed the rumors that was reported a few months back. The phone is expected to be unveiled during MWC 2011 with some other Xperia phones to go with.


Updated: Facebook will launch two branded smartphone during MWC 2011


Remember the Facebook phone that was rumored and never got the chance to see the light of day? Well, its back, at least reports say that it will be announced and launched during the Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona, Spain.

Verizon will start taking pre-orders of the iPhone 4 on February 3 at 3am


Verizon is said to start taking pre-orders of the iPhone 4 on February 3. MacRumors have received an email which says the Big Red will begin taking pre-orders on the said date at 3 AM EST. Pre-orders are limited and once they are gone interested customers will have to wait until Feb 10 for the official launching by Verizon.

Samsung to introduce the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 at MWC 2011?


The next iteration of the Samsung Galaxy S (GT-i9000) which will be christened as the Samsung Galaxy S2 "Seine" is undoubtedly gonna be unveiled during MWC 2011. So, is it the only "big" device from Samsung that is set to rock the stage in Barcelona? I doubt that. 


Three UK announces the Samsung Galaxy Ace running on Android 2.2.1 Froyo Plus


British network carrier Three have announced one of the latest Android smartphone from Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Ace. The handset is set to be offered in various plans including the newest Three offering the "eat-all-you-can" plan which start from $25 per month which allows you to do whatever you want on the internet with your Galaxy Ace.

[Local] Philippines officially gets the BlackBerry Bold 9780


The BlackBerry Bold 9780 finally made it to the Philippines. Announced and launched in the US last year, the BlackBerry Bold 9780 is apparently the successor of the Bold 9700. The handset runs on RIM's latest BB OS, the BlackBerry 6.


The Samsung Giorgio Armani Galaxy S is now available in the UK


The Samsung Giorgio Armani Galaxy S, well its actually a rebranded version of AT&T's Samsung Capitave (AT&T's Galaxy S). As the name of the phone itself says, it is targeted to be sold for them up there. The phone's features will still be the same with the normal Galaxy S that you know with the exception that this has Giorgio Armani branding on it.

RIM and Verizon is now offering the BlackBerry 6 OS updates to BlackBerry Bold 9650 and Curve 9300 owners. The update is both available online or over-the-air. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc to launch in the UK on April 1 for £459.99


The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, the next generation of Xperias from SE, was announced back at CES 2011. Until now we have no official dates on when the smartphone will be available. SE just said that it will be made available globally within Q1 of 2011. So any leaks and slip ups from anybody will be considered an evidence that might lead to a launching of the handset like this post.

Nokia Philippines is putting the Nokia X2-01 QWERTY phone on sale this coming Saturday for only P3,950. LG to unveil the LG Optimus 3D at MWC 2011?


The world's first dual-core smartphone powered by an nVidia Tegra 2 processor, the LG Optimus 2X, is not yet for sale in any parts of the world, well except in South Korea. The phone is still a month old, or let me say, less than a month old if you want it that way, and we have rumors here that LG is about to announce a new handset and will join the Optimus line of smartphones. 

Samsung unveils 4 Android smartphones - Samsung Galaxy Ace, Gio, Fit, and Mini


Samsung, the almost #1 mobile phone manufacturer (just behind Nokia), have announced 4 new Android smartphones! These smartphones are mid-range phones so you should not expect specs that are at par with those dual-core powered handsets and whatnots. 


Mozilla releases the "last" beta update of Firefox 4 Beta 10



And I though Firefox 4 Beta 9 was the last beta version that Mozilla will be releasing before the final  version of their the major update of Firefox. Oh well, they say this will be the homestrech, and promises good stuffs before we finally get that much awaited Firefox 4 (final version).


HTC tablet named "Flyer" specs leaked


Well, HTC is yet to announce to the world their tablet challenger, and with rumors already lurking around the internet, HTC might have been pressured in releasing one as soon as possible. Specs of the alleged HTC Flyer, the  name given to their soon to be announced tablet, are leaked.


Nokia tablet leaked running on MeeGo


Because Nokia will never put Android on their devices, that is the reason why this leaked Nokia tablet is running on MeeGo. The photo you see above and below are first seen at bugs.meego.com which could mean that the device you see is official.


HP Palm Topaz specs leaked and more

That is the leaked HP Palm Topaz, one of the two versions of the up coming tablet from HP Palm. It will be the first tablet to run on WebOS and since HP Palm is setting a stage for a press event with regards to it's WebOS I am expecting this device to be announced.

nVidia Tegra 3 sports a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor - slides leaked



It was in CES 2011 that nVidia showered us with the Tegra 2 processor bringing us the world's first smartphones with a dual-core processor. Today, we got some leaked slides that shows the Tegra 3 processor set to be released in 2011.


Samsung Galaxy S Hoppin official in Korea


The Samsung Galaxy Hoppin (SHW-M190S) is made official in South Korea. The phone is available over at SKT in Korea, I bet this will only be available in the country. Its specs are more like of the Samsung Galaxy S we know. 1 GHz processor, GPS, HD Video recording, Android 2.2 Froyo, 4" Super AMOLED display, Bluetooth, a 3.5 mm headset jack, DLNA, WiFi, "and more".

For those who wanted to have a phone but is wanting them to be a bit lower than how much they are priced then this is the day you are waiting for. PinoyTechBlog got word from Samsung Philippines that they have dropped the prices of some of their handsets currently available in the Philippine market.

Motorola Xoom's price over at Best Buy is $799


Yesterday, I posted about the Motorola Xoom that will be priced over at Best Buy for only $699, but DroidLife kind of confirmed some information they had that the device will be priced at $799. The Xoom will be launched by Verizon with the same price, that's $799.99. 

For now, all of those interested in getting the Xoom will just have to stick with this price, for now. Who knows, that might change on launch day.

[Local] 2nd Generation Intel Core processors now available in the Philippines


Back at CES 2011 Intela have showered the world with their 2nd generation Intel Cores, those Sandy Brigdges, that feature a new architecture in the chip's design offering you better performance compared to the first gen iCores. In the Philippines though, Intel have already announced the processors, and my source have seen hem in stores already, well at least some of them.


The LG Optimus 2X is now for sale in South Korea


The world's first dual-core smartphone, the LG Optimus 2X, is now for sale in LG's home turf. This is very expected since the company have stated on the day of the phone's unveiling that it will be first made available in South Korea. And when LG holds on to its plans then we should  be seeing the smartphone being available in Europe before the end of this month.


Best Buy to sell the Motorola Xoom for $699.99 without contract


Best Buy is planning to sell the Motorola Xoom for only $699.99 without contract. That's Android 3.0 Honeycomb, a dual-core processor, 10.1" capacitive touch screen display, WiFi, and 4G capability plus 32 GB of storage. If you think that is just too way up there and is very pricey, then think of it's competition being the iPad 32 GB at $729. 

With this leaked information from Best Buy, Motorola is on track in launching the Motorola Xoom on February 17th then.

Samsung unveils new Samsung Gem SCH-i100 Android smarphone


Samsung USA introduces and makes the Samsung Gem SCH-i100 Android powered smartphone official. The smartphone was already seen sporting Verizon's logo when it was still leaked, so most likely Big Red will be launching the phone soon. The smartphone will be running on Android 2.1 Eclair, unfortunately.


LG G-Slate spotted in a South Korean music video!


Oh yes, that is the LG G-Slate. It was first introduced by LG during the CES 2011 bound to be heading for T-Mobile but that was just a teaser video, not really showing what the tablet looks like. What LG has in mind is, why not put the tablet in a music video? Another teaser, but at least we can see what the tablet actually will look like when it comes down on Earth.


Google's Android 2.2.2 Froyo update to come to the Nexus One


The SMS issue or bug that the Android OS have really made a lot of noise to Android users. Months after the noticeable issue have been spotted, Google have finally responded to fix the bug about SMS routing that gets miss sent to different people on your contacts.


Samsung Star II officially priced in Germany for €199


The just announced Samsung Star II, apparently, the successor of the successful Samsun Star have been officially given a price tag over in Germany. The brew-based mid-range touch screen smartphone by Samsung   is priced in Germany for  €199. But Amazon.de is now letting you pre-order the handset for just €113.5 ($154).
