Updated: Facebook will launch two branded smartphone during MWC 2011

Remember the Facebook phone that was rumored and never got the chance to see the light of day? Well, its back, at least reports say that it will be announced and launched during the Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona, Spain.

Facebook is not only reported to launch 1 phone but 2 phones! The report comes in contradicting the recent statement from Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, which he denied that Facebook is working on a Facebook branded phone.

Regardless of what the young billionaire said, the report still claims that the social networking giant will get HTC built smartphones. The phones are said to feature some Facebook livery based of course from the Facebook website. Further, the phones are expected to be running on Android.

Update: This is a full quote from Unwired View about the Facebook phone's features.
"The Facebook phone will have location-aware coupons. You pick some main categories of interest, and then, when you’re near any store that fits in any of those categories, coupons are automatically pushed to your phone.
An always-on GPS service will run in the background and automatically check you into locations, allowing you (or, this being Facebook, perhaps outright imposing on you) to share these with your friends.
The phone will have very little local storage space, relying almost exclusively on ‘the cloud’ for everything. Contacts, media, data – all will be always synced with the cloud.
The phone will have a camera, and all the pictures you take will be automatically uploaded to the cloud (presumably to Facebook if this is a Facebook phone).
The Facebook phone will also have a news ticker-style notification system that will show you message content as it’s delivered, regardless of message type. All the messages (presumably text messages, Facebook messages, IMs, etc.) will make it into one inbox, where they will be sortable by type, but initially unfiltered.
The Facebook phone is starting to look like the successor, in the mobile rumor world, to the Apple phone (finally confirmed after years of speculation), and the Google phone (that resulted in an OS also years after the first rumor surfaced). Let’s hope the Facebook phone gets to market sooner than those previous things did. If not, we’ll just have to feed your Facebook phone appetite with rumor after rumor. We’ll see." - Unwired View
Update: Facebook have categorically denied the rumors that HTC is preparing to unveil 2 Facebook branded devices on MWC 2011. Facebook's head of business development  Dan Rose, said that “This is really just another example of a manufacturer who has taken our public APIs (application programing interfaces) and integrated them into their device in an interesting way,” and continued saying ”The rumors around there being something more to this HTC device are overblown.” But the Facebook official did not comment if Facebook is or not working on a branded smartphone. - BGR
