Google's very own tablet announced - Google Nexus Tablet

After unveiling Android 4.1 Jelly Bean yesterday at Day 1 of Google I/O, the search giant also introduced to the world their very own tablet, unsurprisingly named as the Google Nexus Tablet. The device is made by Asus and sports the latest version of Android, which is the one they announced before this device, Android 4.1. The Nexus Tablet is the world's first quad-core tablet that features a 7" display. And since this tablet is made by Asus, expect a great screen resolution on it.  The Nexus Tablet is already available for pre-order over here.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean announced at Google I/O

Google at Google I/O has officially unveiled and showcased the next iteration of Android. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is a major update from 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, apparently. The OS, as Google promised, will be first pushed to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Motorola Xooms. In terms of the UI of the platform not much has changed from ICS but there are some noticeable UI changes and improvements. Well, the UI does not really matter unless you are a Nexus user because when this comes to a non-Pure Google phone it will just be layered on top with another UI. But, yup! The vanilla flavored Android 4.1 JB is here to wow us and, personally, it did.

Android Jelly Bean gets official with arrival of Jelly Bean Statue at Google

At Googleplex the statue to represent the next iteration of the popular mobile platform, Android, has arrived. The statue confirms that the name of the next Android is Jelly Bean! Well, it's an Android, sans the face, and filled with jelly beans (a bit lame, personally). Anyway, according to rumors and reports, Android 4.1 will be Jelly Bean and not 5.0. As Google I/O kick-starts, we should be hearing more information about what are the new things that the Jelly Bean has for the mobile world. I am not really expecting too much UI redesigns and whatnots but I'd bet there would only be improvements, new features, and making Android more stable than it was before.

IND: HTC Desire V launched in India with dual-sim feature

In third-world markets a feature like dual-sim support in a smartphone will always be a big hit. In the Philippines, phones with dual-sim support are not only economically it also saves you from carrying two handsets, or more, because of the different network carriers that offer different kinds of promos and whatnots to customers. I am made to believe that this is also the case in India. The Indian mobile phone market is one of those markets that love dual-sim smartphones or handsets. With that in mind, the HTC Desire V was launched in the country for Rs. 21,999. Popular Indian retailer, Flipkart, is offering the device for the said price and promises to deliver it right on your doorsteps 6-8 business days after you ordered it from them. Since this is the first time I am posting regarding the device, head over the break for the phone's specs.

Microsoft unveiled the Windows Phone 8 shows off the new Windows Phone startscreen

Like any other mobile platforms out there, they need to be updated on its security, performance, bugs and fixes, features, and of course with how it looks. iOS has not been forward enough in doing major changes in how the platform looks. iOS is still basically what it looked like years ago but it seems to be working though. Android has changed a lot from Gingerbread to the latest version, Ice Cream Sandwich. Now it is Windows Phone's turn. Well, the difference from WP7 and WP8 is not really that big but it will really make a difference. What Microsoft did was to allow the user more tiles to be pinned into the home screen. They did this by allowing users to seize the tiles and more space allowed for them to put these tiles. For us users, we will have more freedom on how the Windows Phone 8 home screen will look like and that is just awesome.

LG's Quick Voice takes on Apple's Siri and Samsung's S Voice

In economics, one of the factors for a market to be perfectly competitive is that in the market the products are the same, in fact exactly the same. In the mobile world, it seems like we are nearing that kind of market. After Apple announcing Siri and porting it to the iPhone 4S, Samsung came with their own feature in the Samsung Galaxy S III, dubbed as the S Voice. Personally, this news came as a surprise, but not that much. LG has unveiled their own version of Siri and S Voice, dubbed as the Quick Voice. With those statements, do I really still need to explain what Quick Voice can do? I think I don't. The feature will be coming to LG smartphones and Android devices as an update and will first be rolled out to the Korean market. According to PocketLint, Quick Voice will first appear to the Optimus Vu.

Microsoft, after months of rumors, has officially announced their own branded tablet that runs on Windows 8, of course. Anyway, the software giant actually announced two kinds of tablets, the Microsoft Surface for Windows 8 RT and the Surface for Windows 8 Pro. I'll be telling you the difference after the break. But before that, Microsoft did something brilliant here. Following from Apple's move on the tablet market and learning from it, the Washington-based company, personally, did not only make a nice challenger to the iPad but did it brilliantly.

Not only are Sony's Tablets getting the update, the Xperia Active too is said to be getting it. The update is rolled out to these Xperia Actives (hit the link for more info from Sony)

At Computex 2012, Acer had these two tablets on display at their booth. No news was said about them but Endgadget was able to find them sitting pretty on their racks. The Acer Iconia Tab A110 and the A210, by the looks of how they named these tablets, seem to be the successor of the Iconia Tab A100 and the Tab A200. The showcased tablets both pack the nVidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor. The A210 is a 10" device while the A110 is a 7-incher. HTC gets license of Sony's PlayStation Certified Program

I am not sure about what I will be saying here but I believe HTC is the first phone maker to get a license from Sony on their PlayStation Certified program. We all know how licensing works, right? Yup, Sony will let that program be licensed and by licensing it allows companies to actually use the service or technology and incorporate it into their products. So, there is already a lot going on with HTC. First they got Beats now they have a license from Sony.

USA: AT&T makes the HTC One X available online and will be available in stores come June 10

Continuing with the W700, it packs a full HD display (1920x1080) display, HDMI ports, a dock that turns the tablet into a "desktop replacement", USB 3.0, and all the necessary wireless connectivity you expect from a tablet.

The Asus Taichi dual-screen ultrabook/tablet

The new Asus TAICHI ultrabook/tablet is a dual-screen device that turns from an ultrabook into a tablet simply by opening the device. The way I understand it, when you open the device its an ultrabook, but when you close it you now face the rear display of the display which then turns the whole thing into a tablet.  Asus gives would-be-buyers the option between an 11.6" Taichi or a 13.3" one. Both displays, by the way , are FHD displays and the rear part of the display is the only part that has touchscreen functionality (which actually makes sense). The Taichi sports Intel's 3rd generation iCore processors, which means Ivy Bridges. Head over the break for more information.

Acer Aspire S7 unveiled at Computex 2012

Acer has unveiled the Acer Aspire S7 during the Computex 2012 event. This device, apparently, an ultrabook is, personally, beautiful. I love it's design and the white color of it, it's just pretty. The Aspire S7 comes in either an 11-inch version or a 13-incher and apparently runs on Windows 8. This ultrabook from Acer has a bit of a unique feature which you cannot really find in other ultrabooks out there. It has the capability to be turned 180 degrees and can theoretically turn into a tablet of sorts.

Firefox 13 officially released - home page and new tab page gets a revamp

I can't really say if Firefox is the last browser to implement this feature into their browser. If my chronological memory would serve me right, I think IE 9 started this first (with their most visited site page), then Opera (speed dial), and then Google Chrome. Anyway, Firefox 13 was officially released yesterday, I believe, and can now be downloaded. For those who are already using Firefox it is simple to get FF 13, it would be just like an update. Click through the Firefox Button > Help > About Firefox > it will then check for updates and if any, will install it for you.

The Asus Transformer AiO

So far in this blog, the devices that Asus has been unveiling back in Computex 2012 are all touchscreen devices. Now, this is the Asus Transformer AiO, and by the sound of it's name and since it has the word "transformer" in it, this is another touchscreen device. The Transformer AiO is actually a desktop PC running on Windows 8 but just like all transformers, the display can be detached and can work as a huge tablet.

The Asus Transformer Book

The Asus Transformer Book, is a laptop than can be turned into a tablet by simply pulling the display from the part where the keyboard is. Well, OK, I get what Asus is trying to say here but isn't it so that the Transformer Tablet 600 and 810 (with their docks) work the same way? Anyway, the difference should probably be in the specs of these devices.

June 6, 2012

With regards to the pricing, the Sony Vaio T13 will cost starting at $800 and with that it will come with an Intel i5 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB HDD which comes with a 32GB SDD drive.
