Acer officially gives gigantic smartphone a name! Acer Iconia Smart with Iconia Tab A100

The smartphone sporting a gigantic 4.8" display was announced last year and it never had a name. It runs on the Android ecosystem (Yeah, I'm liking that term), and finally at the Mobile World Congress 2011, the Taiwanese has finally given it a name, the Acer Iconia Smart (which will nicely be part of Acer's Iconia devices).

Acer Iconia Smart specs:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • Acer UI 4.2 overlay
  • 4.8" HXGA (1024 x 480) touch screen display
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 8GB of ROM
  • 8MP rear camera
  • 2MP front camera
  • Full HD video recording at 720p
  • A-GPS and GNSS (Russian Glonass GPS) chip
  • Gyroscope (If that's what G Sensor means)
  • Light sensor
  • Proximity sensor
  • eCompass
  • Gyro-Meter (oh maybe G sensor means gravity sensor)
  • HDMI out
  • 1,500 mAh battery

Acer's Iconia Tab A500 is also on display at their booth in MWC 2011 but I won't about it aside from mentioning that the device displayed runs on Android 2.2 Froyo. Acer is not yet shipping the tablet so the OS might not be final. It's a power tablet so I expect the Taiwanese company to be shipping the tablet with Honeycomb in it.

The other device that is on display is the Acer Iconia Tab A100 this is a 7-incher, Android powered tablet as seen in the photo above. I am a bit confused on why I have not posted anything about the Iconia Tab A100. Anyway, the A100 and the A500 are both stuffed with a dual-core processor and Acer have promised that both tablets will be shipped with Android 3.0 Honeycomb ported in them.
