Qualcomm announced, Wednesday, that they are in and will be collaborating with Microsoft for the next version of Windows. Actually, they are one of those who showcased their own chips in devices displayed at Computex 2011 with Windows 8 running in them. Anyway, Qualcomm said that the first chipset that they will be producing are those Snapdragon MSM8960 which is said to start sampling this month. This will then be followed with, I believe their say with nVidia's Kal-El chipsets, the APQ8064™ quad-core chips. The quad-core chips from Qualcomm is said to start sampling by early 2012, which makes nVidia ahead in the game. Anyway, read Qualcomm's press release after the break.

Windows 8 prototypes shown at Computex
When Windows 8 was first unveiled at the D9 Conference, a few devices were on stage when Microsoft's Windows and Windows Live Vice President Steven Sinofsky demoed the new OS. A few hours after that, across the globe in Taiwan, prototypes of different form factors that the OS would be running on where displayed and shown off to the crowd. These are all ARM-based prototypes with Microsoft's first hardware partners like Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and nVidia all showed off their own devices (well chips inside the device, I believe).

Acer Iconia M500 is the A500 with MeeGo in it
Acer did not say it, obviously, but if you've seen the Acer Iconia A500, then you'd immediately say that the tablet in the photo is the A500. Well, its not. That is the Acer Iconia M500 and yup it runs on MeeGo. It will be the first of the M series from Acer. The tablet is powered by an Intel Atom (Moorestown) processor, which I believe, means more power for you.

Acer W4 Windows Phone Mango smartphone showcased at Computex 2011
Although the smartphone is clearly not turned on, since its only a mock up of the Acer W4, I think this is the first time that a Windows Phone that will be launched running Mango is seen, officially by the public. Anyway, the smartphone is on display in Taiwan at Computex 2011 and as far as my own opinion goes, this smartphone is decent. I mean, it has simple in design and not so many fancy stuff going on around it, which I like.

The Asus UX21 - an ultrathin laptop 17mm at its thickest part will be the world's thinnest laptop
I simply can't ignore this. Asus announced another laptop at Computex 2011. This time it's the Asus Eee PC UX21 and is bound to be the thinnest laptop in the world. I've done the calculations. The Samsung Series 9 is the current holder of being the world's thinnest. Being 0.68 inches thin at the thickest part of the laptop (17.272mm). Asus is saying that the Eee PC UX21 will be only 17mm at its thickest part, making it the world's thinnest.

Asus Eee PC X101 announced runs on MeeGo
Ok, this will be, I think, the first of a lot of Asus news that is going to rain down on this blog. Asus have announced and showcased at Computex 2011, the Asus Eee PC X101. A netbook (they call it an "ultrathin") that runs on MeeGo. The laptop features an 11" display and of course the Linux based OS, MeeGo. If you don't like the sound of that, Asus will also be offering the netbook or ultrathin laptop with Windows OS in it.

ViewSonic ViewPad 10Pro sports an Intel Oak Trail processor - Android tablet with Windows 7 OS
Ok, don't get confused with the title I just made with this post. It basically means that the ViewSonic ViewPad 10Pro runs on the Android platform but can also "boot" the Windows 7 OS. But don't get too excited with the "dual-boot" idea of it all. The device, by the way, is also showcased in at Computex 2011.

ViewSonic ViewPad 7x tried to be the world's first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet
Would you look at that? A 7-inch tablet running on the tablet optimized platform, Android Honeycomb, is being showcased at Computex 2011 by ViewSonic. Dubbed as the ViewSonic ViewPad 7x, the company will try to be the world's first to launch a 7-inch tablet running on the said platform. Base on the photos of the device, the tablet has a UI overlay on it and it looks nice, for me.
