I simply can't ignore this. Asus announced another laptop at Computex 2011. This time it's the Asus Eee PC UX21 and is bound to be the thinnest laptop in the world. I've done the calculations. The Samsung Series 9 is the current holder of being the world's thinnest. Being 0.68 inches thin at the thickest part of the laptop (17.272mm). Asus is saying that the Eee PC UX21 will be only 17mm at its thickest part, making it the world's thinnest.
The Asus Eee PC UX21 is also set to be the world's lightest laptop. Weighing at just 2.4lbs the Asus ultrathin will be lighter than the current lightest, Samsung Series 9 which weighs at 2.89 pounds. When it comes to specs, the UX21 does not even disappoint. The laptop will can be specced with an Intel Core i7 and can return back from sleep mode in just 2 secs. Also, Asus is stuffing a SATA III SSD, and USB 3.0 connectivity.
I'll be getting a snippet from Asus' Press Release below. Specifically the part where they talk about the said laptop.
"UX Series ultraportables
ASUS is noted for its exquisite design, and nowhere else is this more evident than in the new UX Series, developed in close cooperation with Intel® to ensure the best products become available to consumers. These astonishingly thin ultraportables are made possible through the use of a strong but light aluminum alloy shell with a unique 'spun' finish on polished surfaces. The artistry of the series draws inspiration from luxury timepieces, displaying sharp edges, an oversized keyboard and smartphone-like touchpad for added comfort, as well as reinforced hinges for extended longevity. Measuring a mere 17mm at its thickest point, the needle-thin UX Series nonetheless packs impressive specifications, with the latest 2nd generation Intel® Core™ mobile processors up to the powerful i7, SATA 6Gb/s solid-state drives and the Instant On feature, which resumes the notebook in seconds."
With regards to the laptop's availability, Asus is expecting to launch the device during the month of September.
