When Microsoft announced the next iteration of their Windows Phone ecosystem to the world, Windows Phone Mango, it comes with it tons of new features. One of those is the fact that Microsoft will be bringing the Windows Phone Marketplace (equivalent to the Android Market) to the web. Which is good news not only to Windows Phone users but also to developers since this will be another channel for them to promote their well-crafted apps.
Bringing the Windows Phone Marketplace to the web will allows users to easily discover apps. I think browsing and looking for apps in a much larger screen helps bring in some more download than when you view it in an app inside your phone. This is what Microsoft said regarding this news.
"The Web version of Marketplace will launch with the new OS later this year and give customers another vehicle for discovering your great apps and games. And as a Windows Phone developer, you get all of the added visibility with no extra work. Just as on the phone, customers will be able to browse the full catalog, view screenshots, read application details and reviews and choose from all of the supported languages for that app. This offers customers another way to more thoroughly and confidently browse your apps from the comfort of their PC’s web browser. With the Web version of Marketplace, we will also have more placement areas in which to provide featured apps with extra visibility and merchandising possibilities.""Later this year" it is then. If they are bringing it to the web I hope they do what Android Market is uniquely doing with their own web version of the market. Downloading and installing apps right on the cloud. I know you Android uses out there know what I am talking about right?
