iMessage is the BlackBerry Messenger killer?

One of the main things that Apple have announced during their annual WWDC event is iMessage. What is iMessage? First thing you need to know is that it comes along with iOS 5. iMessage is basically Apple's way of competing with RIM's BlackBerry Messenger service. iMessage allows iOS users (iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch) to send messages and photos. I know you get it, just think of BBM

TechPump asks:Which of the two Android superphones do you prefer? Cast your votes now!

"This service works on an iOS device of any flavor, and lets you send text messages, photos, videos, and contacts to anyone else with one too. It also supports group chats and integrates with the new Notification Center in iOS 5." - Endgadget
With Apple's huge user base? This new service will definitely make RIM shake in fear. I mean, come one, this is definitely the most head-on competition that BBM has and Google is also cooking up something for Android too, but today, iMessage is the what BBM should fear.

iMessage works with WiFi or over 3G connection which is basically an uppercut for BBM.
"The final nail in the coffin for those of you who simply 'can't live without BBM:' delivery and read confirmations. Boom." - Endgadget
Anyway, this will also come along with iOS 5 so nobody is getting this until Apple launches iOS 5 this fall.
