BlackBerry Tablet OS update (ver. 1.0.5) released - Facebook app for BlackBerry also updated


RIM have released an update to their BlackBerry Tablet OS. Version 1.0.5 is now available for BlackBerry PlayBook owners and includes a lot of new stuff in it. The update is available via the BlackBerry App World and with this version the world's first (until now is the only) tablet device with an official Facebook app. Anyway, I will be listing you some of the new features included in the 1.0.5 update for the PlayBook's OS.

In-App Payment Support


The BlackBerry App World now enables PlayBook owners to purchase apps inside the app itself.

Tablet OS Enhancements

  • Charging and Battery Pop-up (see photo above)
  • Additional Language Support
    • French, Italian, Dutch, German, Spanish, and UK English.
  • Video Chat Connectivity 
    • Added support for Traversal Using Relay NAT protocol, enhanced Video Chat connections
  • WiFi Hotspot Detection
    • Automatic WiFi detection
  • Headset Audio Boost
    • An option for those who wants more volume from their tablets.

"How to upgrade to BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5
Users who purchase and activate a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet on or after Tuesday, June 7th, 2011 will be automatically updated to v1.0.5 as part of the BlackBerry PlayBook setup process. Existing BlackBerry PlayBook users will be presented with a software update notification on the BlackBerry PlayBook status ribbon, or they can go check for the software update at any time in the Settings Menu under Software Updates."
