Samsung officially announces the Samsung Galaxy SL

This was rumored a few days back, but Samsung have finally made this variant of the current Samsung Galaxy S (GT-i9000). The Samsung Galaxy SL GT-i9003, as far as I can tell, is a cheaper version of the GT-i9000. It weights a bit more, is thicker, and features a Super LCD instead of the Super AMOLED display. But why? Don't ask me that question it seems apparent that Samsung is trying to give you an option or opt for a bit cheaper Galaxy S, the most popular Android device.

Samsung have not yet announced the device but it surely is in Samsung's Asia and Middle East sites. Digit reported that the SL is here to replace the GT-i9000, oh well, that's what Samsung wants to do.

Digit have also pointed out some differences of the two models/variants of the handset. I will be giving you a list of the Galaxy S/SL specs and will just be putting in the SL's specs if that part is a bit different. The Galaxy SL's specs are in bold. If a specific specification does not have a bold characters beside them it means that the SL and the S both have the same spec.

Samsung Galaxy S/SL specs:
  • Android 2.1 Eclair (upgradeable to 2.2) - Android 2.2 Froyo
  • 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 Samsung Hummingbird  processor  -  1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 TI OMAP processor
  • 4" (480 x 800) Super AMOLED display - 4" SC-LCD (480 x 800) display
  • 5 MP rear facing camera
  • 8/16 GB (option) built-in memory - 16 GB built-in memory
  • 512 MB RAM 2 GB ROM -  478 MB RAM user available
  • A-GPS
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 1500 mAh battery - 1650 mAh battery
With regards to the Galaxy SL's pricing and availability, that still remains a question. So, if Samsung officially unveils the device then I will be updating you.
