Qualcomm unveils new generation Snapdragon chips - quad-core awesomeness with 2.5GHz clockspeed!

Qualcomm at MWC 2011 have unveiled their new generation Snapdragon chips. You might think that the mobile processor industry, especially with Qualcomm, is getting a little boring, then think again. The new chips from the company will be powering your future devices up to 2.5GHz and that will have four cores in it giving you 150% more overall performance and 65% lesser power consumption (that's a lot!). The new chipset comes in single, dual, and of course quad cores.

The single, dual, and 4-core chips will be bearing the codename MSM8930, MSM8960, and APQ8064, respectively. All of these chips will be capable of supporting WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM, NFC, and stereoscopic 3D video and photo capture and playback.

The chips are expected to be available in the 2nd quarter of this year, while the dual and quad core chips made available in early 2012. nVidia leaked their 2011 roadmap and if they stick to that road and map then I think they will get ahead with Qualcomm in releasing that quad-core power and making it available for manufacturers to incorporate it to their devices.

Regardless of who's getting their first, I am excited by the quad-core awesomeness into mobile devices. Hit the source link for Qualcomm's presser.
