Since I do not have anything to blog about so far, I decided to post bout Nokia's world records that is said to "blow your mind!" It's been sitting in my bookmarks for weeks now and finally it got out of there and gets into my blog. Nokia, the struggling Finnish mobile phone manufacturer, have world records, of course and we'll be talking about them after the break.
To start everything off, Nokia have reported that 65.2% of Chinese mobile subscribers download apps from the Ovi Store which is almost three times more than that of Android's and Apple's App stores combined. Pretty amazing huh? That's just the start and I think it's not a world record.
Nokia bags the world record for the most listened tune. Nope, it ain't your national anthem nor Poker Face by Lady Gaga. The most listened tune is the Nokia tune. If you have a Nokia phone there turn off then it back on the tune you hear when the phone boots up is the most listened to tune or the official Nokia ringtone. The tune "comes from the composition Gran Vals, by the Spanish composer Francisco Tárrega. Anssi Vanjoki who, along with Lauri Kivinen, selected the famous excerpt brought it to Nokia in 1993. It is now heard worldwide an estimated 1.8 billion times per day, or about 20,000 times per second!"
During the Golden years of Nokia, it had in it's phones a game that was so addictive, that even I was playing when I was a bit younger. Snake, a game that was programmed intentionally for the Nokia 6100 series of phones became the world's most popular game ever, a world record of course. Angry Birds? Does not come close to Snake, you know Snakes eat birds. The game is currently embedded to over 350 million devices worldwide, amazing stuff.
Aside from being the largest manufacturer of mobile phones, the Finnish company also bags the record for the biggest manufacturer of digital cameras. Since 2008, Nokia has been holding that record and today 4 billion people are taking pictures with their camera phone, which is the most used type of camera today.
Then recently Nokia took the record for the world's biggest cinema screen and the world's smallest stop-motion animation. Both of which were done last year.
The original Samsung Star is Samsung's most popular handset which sold 30 million handsets worldwide. Nokia on the other hand, sold not only 30 million of Nokia 1100s but a whopping 250 million units. The Nokia 1100 is undoubtedly the most popular phone in the world.
So, Nokia has it going with a lot of world records. of course, other companies have their's to boast too.
