Rumors have it that the 2.3 version of Android, named Gingerbread, is a Nexus S exclusive and that other handsets that are waiting for the 2.3 Gingerbread blessing will never get it instead they will be directly updated to 2.4 Gingerbread.
Android Central reported that the 2.3 Gingerbread is reserved only for the Nexus S. Well if that is to believe then Android users who are expecting to get that update should not wait for it anymore but instead expect 2.4 Gingerbread.
As pointed out by PhoneDog, the Motorola Droid is the only handset or device that was launched with Android 2.0 no other devices got that version of the platform but all the rest including the original Droid to be updated to Android 2.1 Eclair. Today there is only one device that is running on Android 2.4 Gingerbread, the HTC Flyer.
