Microsoft to put on its own layer for Windows 7 tablets

Ever wonder if your non-touch Windows 7 laptop have the touch capability? Have you ever wonder how well the Windows 7 would do if it was used for a touch screen device with the likes of a tablet? Well, it wouldn't be that a good experience. The Toshiba Libretto, the dual touch screen netbook, was a good netbook but it did not do well, with the touch screen of it all in the Windows 7 OS. The reason why? Read Endgadget's review here.

This news would be great for devices that are touch screen and will be running on Windows 7. It is said that Microsoft is working on a UI for Windows 7 that would fit the tablet industry. The idea is just like HP's TouchSmart UI which is an overlay of the stock OS (like Windows). A software is put on top  of the stock OS to make things easier for touch controls. Of course, you wouldn't want to tap on the Menu option on a window that is so small on the upper left corner of your touch screen device right? So, Microsoft is here to make a solution to the problem, with this layer from themselves. It is said that the layer or UI would be based on Windows Media Center.
"what you'll see over the course of the next year is us doing more and more work with our hardware partners creating hardware-software optimisations with Windows 7 and with Windows 7 Media Center [...]." -Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer
