So, finally, Mozilla has announced their very own mobile OS dubbed as the Firefox OS. This, together with Ubuntu will make the smartphone world more wonderful for consumers. Wonderful because competition keeps everything in check. Anyway, the first smartphones to sport the said OS from Mozilla will be ZTE's Open (photo above) and Alcatel's OneTouch Fire (photo below). I have specs for the ZTE device but nothing from the Alcatel. You can check out The Verge's hands on video of these two device and check out the OS itself.

The first markets to get Firefox OS powered devices are "Brazil, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Venezuela. Additional markets will be announced soon." And the carriers that will carry these devices are "América Móvil, China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Hutchison Three Group, KDDI, KT, MegaFon, Qtel, SingTel, Smart, Sprint, Telecom Italia Group, Telefónica, Telenor, TMN and VimpelCom. Telstra is welcoming the Mozilla initiative as an opportunity to deliver an innovative mobile Web experience to their customers."
