Google announces Google Play - the Android Market renamed

Google has officially announced Google Play. It is basically the Android Market renamed and Google have added a few stuff here and there more noticeably Music, Movies, and Books. Google Play actually merges the Android Market, Google Music, Google eBookStore, and Google Movies (if it exists) into one place. For those who owns an Android device, your Android Market should start updating to Google Play.

So what is new with Google Play that the Android Market did not have? One thing is clear, Android Market is for apps only and that is basically it. Google Play incorporates other Google stores like Music, eBooks, and Movies.

With Google Play you can:

  • Download more than 450,000 Android apps and games
  • Browse the world’s largest selection of eBooks
  • Rent thousands of your favorite movies, including new releases and HD titles
