[Official] Twitter swallows Tweetdeck for $40 million

The rumors and reports that have been circulating around Twitter's acquisition of Tweetdeck have been really everywhere. Today though, news about Twitter acquiring the world's most popular third-party twitter client, Tweetdeck, is in circulation for the amount of $40 million in cash and in stock. Twitter have not yet released any comments on this report which came from CNN and CNET, but I believe they will soon they will be announcing it.

This is what Twitter has to say about this report:  “For all those who might be curious, we continue to not comment on rumors.” It's not really a question of did Twitter really buy Tweetdeck its just a question of when will they officially announce it?

Tweetdeck is a serious competition or a danger for Twitter. Take note that 40% of all tweets in the world are from third-party applications and most of those are generally from Tweetdeck. That does not sound good for Twitter since the site is earning via promoted trending topics and I believe they do not earn from the different Twitter clients available today.

Whatever will happen to Tweetdeck, may it be completely shut down or may it become Twitter's official client, is still a question that can only be answered in the next coming weeks, months, or even years or even better when Twitter finally announces the acquisition.

UPDATE:

Its official! Tweetdeck have announced via their official blog and have said that they have been acquired and is now part of Twitter. Although the blog post did not mention how much the acquisition was, of course, the main point is that TweetDeck is finally owned by Twitter.
