Samsung Sweden promised the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Galaxy S to be released soon

Samsung Sweden have confirmed that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the popular Samsung Galaxy S (GT-i9000) is going to be released soon. Samsung Hub reports that the update is in its final stage of testing and is due to be released anytime soon. The update, in Sweden, will be first coming to unlocked Galaxy S-es for those who have their phones locked with a network carrier the update should be released in in mid-May much later than the unlocked Galaxy S-es which should get the update in mid-April.

Samsung Finland, on the other hand, have also confirmed that the update on their turf will be released in mid-April. The update will come via Kies so it seems that it will not be through OTA. Anyway, this is good news, whichever way you look at it. At least, Samsung only took lesser time to update the smartphone to 2.3 compared to updating it from 2.1 to 2.2
