Samsung Galaxy S i9000 gets Android 2.2.1 update not Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Samsung have rolled out an Android 2.2.1 update to the international version of the popular Galaxy S (i9000) handset. This is not Android 2.3 Gingerbread, although Samsung have confirmed that the smartphone will be getting the OS, this update is a bug fix update.

Galaxy S (i9000) users in Sweden have reported that they have been receiving the Android 2.2.1 update through Samsung Kies. The people in Sweden that have received the update reports, many of them, that there's a general speed up of the smartphone once the update is installed. Apparently, the update is only happening in Sweden because it is the only place where my source got reports about the update.

If you own a Galaxy S GT-i9000 then I suggest you connect it to your PC with Samsung Kies, make sure it is the latest version though, and check if you get the update too. If you get the update please do comment below and tell us what the update did on your phone (make sure to back up your Galaxy S).

Also, Samsung Hub have gotten reports that wireless update is also available. Please do check it out.

Update: Google is set to roll out Android 2.2.2 Froyo update on the Nexus One which is intended to fix bugs and most importantly to fix the SMS routing issues the Android OS has. Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread is the equivalent fix on the 2.3 verison of the OS. Since Android 2.2.2 Froyo is ready to be rolled out, expect the update to be coming to the Galaxy S, hopefully.
