So when I heard the news that Samsung has rolled out Android 2.2.1 update over at Sweden I asked a friend of mine to check if he also gets the said update on his Samsung Galaxy S. Viola! Android 2.2.1 update on Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 in the Philippines is also available.
The update is not Android 2.3 Gingerbread, of course, but as what the Swedish Galaxy S users have reported, the update, which is purposely for bug fixes, speeds up their handsets. At this moment my friend who sent me in this tip is still updating his Galaxy S. I will be updating this post if he recognizes any general boost in speed with his updated Galaxy S.
To update your Galaxy S to Android 2.2.1 make sure that your Samsung Kies is on the latest version. Connect your phone and the update notification should popup. Make sure also to back up your phones so that you will not lose any files, settings, and data on your Galaxy S. Please do hit the comment box below if you are getting the update too.
Update: My friend just reported that truly the update (Android 2.2.1) made his Galaxy S experience faster. He said it is noticeably faster. Thanks again Nate!
Update: Google is set to roll out Android 2.2.2 Froyo update on the Nexus Onewhich is intended to fix bugs and most importantly to fix the SMS routing issues the Android OS has. Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread is the equivalent fix on the 2.3 verison of the OS. Since Android 2.2.2 Froyo is ready to be rolled out, expect the update to be coming to the Galaxy S, hopefully.
[Thanks Nate!]
