Google's tablet optimized OS, Android 3.0 Honeycomb requires a dual-core processor "to run properly"

Google have released the latest Android version for smartphones, what's next for Android is the tablet optimized version of the said platform. Google is set to unveil and release the Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb the next OS that will surely become popular again, but this time for tablets.

A question still lingers in the tech world. Will Android 3.0 Honeycomb also work for smartphones? Or will it be just an OS for tablets? Well, this post might answer that question.

PCMag reported today that Android Honeycomb have quite steep requirements from the hardware that the OS will be running. According to Bobby Cha, the managing director of Korean electronics company Enspert, is quoted on PCMag's report that the said OS requires at least a dual-core Cortex A9-based processor to run "properly".

Interesting isn't it? If true then iPad's competition, the Samsung Galaxy Tab which currently runs on Android 2.2 Froyo, won't be able to get the Honeycomb update. That would mean that the version of the OS that the device can get is the Android 2.4 Gingerbread, assuming that Samsung will update the OS of their first tablet.

Well, CES 2011 is very near and I am sure that Google will have something to say about this since during the event, Motorola, LG, & Toshiba are set to unveil their own tablets to the public all of which will be running on Android 3.0 Honeycomb and all are also packed with nVidia's Tegra 2 platform (dual-core).
