BlackBerry Dakota touch and type smartphone gets photoed

We heard not much from BlackBerry during CES 2011 in Las Vegas a week ago aside from the BlackBerry Playbook 4G heading for Sprint. Maybe, they have announced something else at their booth but nothing really made it into the limelight, which means, not that surprising. Anyway, BGR got a hold of that picture. Head over the break to read more about it.

That is the BlackBerry Dakota that got pictured and BGR got hold of. Based on BGR's post they said that the device is set to sit "right at the head of the BlackBerry family dinner table" which, as I understood it, means that this handset is set to be BlackBerry's next flagship phone.

The selling point for this handset right here is very interesting. It may just look like your very identifiable BlackBerry Bold but this is the Bold's version of the Torch, get it? And if you are thinking that the smartphone will be a sliding-QWERTY-keyboard-less device with a touch screen display, then you are right on target! Sounds like the Nokia X3? Well, maybe but this has a QWERTY keyboard that the X3 does not have.

BlackBerry Dakota specs:
  • BlackBerry OS 6.1
  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Tri-band UMTS
  • 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, flash, and image stabilization
  • 4GB of built in storage, 768MB of RAM
  • 2.8-inch VGA 640×480 capacitive screen
  • WiFi b,g,n on 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies
  • 3G mobile hotspot!
  • MicroUSB port
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Magnetometer
  • Accelerometer
  • Proximity sensor
  • 10.5mm thin
So what do you think?
