Acer intros 4.8" Android smartphone that packs a 1024x480 resolution

Acer's Global press event today is just confirming rumors and leaks and that's what we all like or some of us, right? Another question before I start typing about this post is, who likes them huge smartphones? If you think those 4.3" smartphones are huge, then how will you describe Acer's unnamed smartphone that features a 4.8" touch screen display then?

Yup, you read it right it's the first smartphone to feature a 4.8" touch screen display, 0.2 of an inch shy of the Dell Streak, which most are calling a tablet-smartphone. Well, I do not consider the Dell Streak a smartphone , so on this blog and on my turf, this smartphone by Acer gets my title as the largest smartphone (screen wise) ever in the world. That large screen, as you might expect, will have a large screen resolution, right? Well, smile because it actually packs a 1024x480 pixel resolution, a drooler.

It was briefly shown during the Acer Global press event in New York and runs on Android with an unnamed version, 2.2 Froyo maybe? It also demonstrated a revamped version of Acer's UI. Now for the specs, this smartphone features a 2 MP front-facing camera (talk about clear video calling), an 8 MP rear facing camera with LED flash, full HD video recording at 720p, Gyroscope (6-axis), Accelerometer, with LED edge lighting, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, HSDPA support, HDMI output, and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Juicy and meaty isn't it? And you might be wondering what that glossy and silvery material as the smartphone's cover, well that's "full metal body".

Acer have been quiet with pricing and availability but they said it'll be shipping on the same month as their Android tablets will, on April 2011
