Google officially releases a new Gmail app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

Goolge has officially launched a new Gmail app for the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch. The new app brings in a new look and also brings in a lot of enhancements here and there. Google says that this new application for iOS will be faster, more efficient, and is optimized for the touch input on these devices. Anyway head over the break to check out these new features.

The new app is expected to bring in speed when you check your email and when you navigate through it.

  • Get alerted to new messages with push notifications and sounds
  • Find an email in seconds with search across your entire inbox
  • Autocomplete email addresses from your Gmail contacts or select from your device’s address book
  • Upload photos with a click using the new attachment button in compose view
  • On iPad, navigate your inbox and read your mail simultaneously with split view

The new app is also expected to bring in better efficiency in using it.

  • Focus on your important messages first with Priority Inbox
  • Quickly scan countless emails on the same subject with threaded conversations
  • Organize your mail by archiving, labelling, starring, deleting and reporting spam

Lastly, the app is optimized for touch input with the inclusion of a new feature like pulling down to refresh your inbox to check for a new mail.

Unfortunately, when the app was made available a lot of users complained about errors and notification bugs that the app was also bringing, which apparently was not part of it's features. Google has temporarily removed the app from the App Store. This is what they have said:
"Earlier today we launched a new Gmail app for iOS. Unfortunately, it contained a bug which broke notifications and caused users to see an error message when first opening the app. We’ve removed the app while we correct the problem, and we’re working to bring you a new version soon. Everyone who’s already installed the app can continue to use it."
