Android Market passes the 3 Billion downloads mark

Who's surprised with this news? Nobody should. The Android platform is no doubt overtaking any other platform in all aspects leaving them to eat dust. With this success plus the success of the ever increasing number of apps being submitted to the Android Market is a testament of how successful Google is with Android. From it's small and unknown beginning to a global phenomenon, truly any news about the Android platform will not come as a surprise to anybody.

During the search giant's 2011 earning calls, Google have announced that the Android Market have surpassed the 3 billion downloads mark. That result is a 50% increase in app downloads from the Android Market since last quarter of 2010.

Also, the company is reporting that the average daily phone activation is at 350,000.

AppBrain reports that the total number of Android Apps that are currently in the market is at around 170,000. Google is also said to be removing apps that do not perform well or with a quality that is very low that they really have to remove it, hence the fluctuating pattern of the graph. Anyway, even if they remove apps from the Android Market, there is only one way the number of apps is going, forward and upward.
