Yes, Microsoft wants IE6 to be totally gone. It's logical, the browser is already in it's 9th version, IE6 seriously needs to get out from the world. Hence, Microsoft launched the ie6countdown.com. So what is this all about?

Easy, its a win-win situation. Users need to stop using IE6 and upgrade their Internet Explorers to the latest version of the browser. What do you get when you upgrade? Come on, the world wide web is constantly evolving their are stuffs that IE6 cannot support and it has less features than what IE9 have today. Aside from that, it does not get the benefit of the already popular GPU rendering technology that almost all web browsers today are incorporating into their softwares. The IE9 looks way better than IE6 that's for sure (I can't remember how IE6 looks like anymore).

And what does this benefit the rest of the people in the world? Microsoft simply wants this version of the browser out because its giving web developers and people who use the web to develop things pain. Instead of consuming time to develop web aps and websites that would support IE6 (and all the other kinds of browsers out there) they can use that time in improving their apps and pages and whatever you can think of aside from the two mentioned.

So do yourself a favor if you are still using IE6, upgrade to IE9 or get a different browser. Also, do your part, inform other people that we need this browser out. Click on the trusty source link below to learn more about this campaign.
