Facebook's Social Ads now starting to roll-out to users - How to opt out

Facebook, the world's largest social networking site, have started rolling out their new Social Ads campaign. The feature, unlike your ordinary ads, will allow companies to use your name and photo in advertisements which are targeted to your friends.

When you like a page on Facebook, say McDonalds, your name and photo might pop up in an ad or a promotion when that ad or promo is seen by your friends. This has been in controversy since the way it works somehow uses your profile (name and photo) to show ads which some of us may think is violating our privacy. Of course, Facebook have thought about that and they will allow users to opt out from this new service they are starting to incorporate into their website. But how do you opt out?

Step 1: Click on Account (upper right corner of your Facebook) and then click on Account Settings

Step 2:  When inside the Account Settings page you should see a new tab named Facebook Ads (if you don't see this tab then Social Ads/Facebook Ads is not yet available on your profile or Facebook). Click on Facebook Ads.

Step 3: When inside the Facebook Ads tab you will now be able to change the settings there. You can opt out from this service by choosing "No One" on the "Allow ads on platform pages to show my information to" drop down menu. Your done!

I did not opt out from this service since I want to try it and see how it works. I am confident though that my privacy is safe with Facebook. But as soon as I think this will not help me in any positive way, I can immediately opt out from the service.
