Google reports that 77% of all Android powered devices in the world is now running on Android 2.1 Eclair or Android 2.2 Froyo. That's how compact the "fragmented" OS is. With a lot of updates that have started out this year to Android 2.2 Froyo, Google is trying to make sure that every Android user gets the updates by helping mobile phone companies and network carriers push the updates as soon as possible.
They get this information by checking out the versions of the Android device that are in their Android Market place and who are downloading apps. Google shows that 77% of the Android users are running on Android's latest versions (2.1 and 2.2), 15% are on Android 1.6 Donut and 7.9% are Android 1.5 users.
