Skype released version 5.5 Beta for Windows of their instant messaging application today. I don't really know, but since Microsoft already acquired Skype add in the fact that Microsoft and Facebook are really good friends (evident by Bing Search as Facebook's search engine) it will come to no surprise that Facebook chat should be inside Skype. Honestly, I have been waiting for this feature to come to the app and finally it is here, at least for Windows powered machines.
Skype 5.5 Beta for Windows is now deeply integrated into your Facebook account that it now allows you to chat with your Facebook friends via Skype. The latest beta release now sports this Facebook tab on the left panel of the app which shows your friends who are online and if you wish to chat with them, they are simply a click away.
Of course, we already know that Facebook is very well inside Skype already evidenced by the Facebook tab where status posts, updates, photos, and whatnots are displayed right from your Skype app. Also, it allows you to like and comment on post.
Skype 5.5 Beta for Windows comes with these new features:
- Facebook Instant Messaging - chat with your Facebook friends directly from Skype.
- Facebook Contacts Tab - a new tab within Skype dedicated to your Facebook contacts list.
- 'Like' and even comment on a Facebook status - You can also use the Facebook News Feed within Skype to easily "like" a friend's status or comment on it without logging into Facebook.
- New Call Control Toolbar - featuring redesigned graphic icons.
- Improvements to the saving of a phone number in the "Call Phones" section.
- Visual improvements to placing a call on hold.
For those who are running on Windows, download Skype 5.5 Beta here and enjoy Facebook within Skype.
