Skype for iPad is officially available at iTunes

The Skype for iPad application seems to be officially available as it is now up on iTunes, again. Yup, again, since the app was "prematurely" made available, maybe accidentally or whatnot. Techblogs reported that the app is already available but then updated their posts because it was taken down. Anyway, right now, if you head over to iTunes, you'd be able to download the app.

iOS 4.2 available today for iOS devices - iPod Touch, iPad, and the iPhone

It may come late but at least its already available. Today is the day that Apple fans out there are waiting for. The release of the iOS 4.2.1 which is basically made for the iPad and where the iOS 4.2 will really stand out most. The software update fixes the iPad's WiFi bugs and will add features that the iPad does not have while the iPhone have like multitasking. Delays won't let the Apple fans from waiting for the this software update that the iPad basically needs and will eventually change things for the iPad. This update will also give the much needed performance improvements for the iPhone 3G.
"Also of note, Apple has made Find My iPhone free for all users. The feature, which allows GPS-enabled iOS devices to be located from within a Web interface, had previously been part of Apple’s $100-per-year MobileMe service." - BGR
The devices that my source have mentioned that will be getting the iOS 4.2.1 update are the iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and the iPod Touch with no mention of which generation of the iPod Touch it is but just try it.

According to Macworld, the update will be available today at 10AM PST (Pacific Standard Time), that's three hours from now. On the other hand Apple's official press statement says "available today". I suggest you all try connecting your iOS devices to your Macs or PCs and check if the update is already pushed out and goodluck.

To update your iOS devices just connect them to your Macs or PCs with the latest iTunes running and update it from their. Tell us what you think of the iOS 4.2 is fairing after the update!

Apple iOS 4.2 release is delayed blame it to the iPad

Apple promised but, unfortunately, have failed to deliver. For Apple mobile device users, your expectation of the iOS 4.2 release day is moved from today to "within the next few weeks". The problem is from the device you see in the photo. The Gold Master version of the iOS 4.2 have been release as scheduled but Apple have found problems with the OS running on the iPad which the version is most intended for. The iOS 4.2 have been reported to suffer from a WiFi bug where the device can normally connect to a WiFi hotspot but could not do anything after establishing the connection. That's like connecting to a wireless router without a modem connected to it. Anyway Apple should be working on it right and the release of the iOS 4.2 is still expected to come, again, "within the next few weeks".

Apple warns iPhone users in the US for the Daylight Savings Time bug

The Alarm Clock plague that have caused a lot of European employees being late for work is also expected to affect the United States. Apple warns American iPhone users that the same bug that have happened when Europe switched from DST to ST will most likely happen in the US too. Well, the bug fix is not yet here until they release iOS 4.2 which is due "early November". Until that time you just have to set a new alarm since the bug only occurs to repeating alarms. US iPhone users please be guided.

Anyone of you over in the US experiencing this problem? Voice it out by commenting.

Apple promised Apple delivered - iOS 4.2 Gold Master

Apple promised the iOS 4.2, basically for the iPad, by early November and viola! Here it is. This is Apple's revision of the iOS 4.2 which is ready for download in Apple's developer portal. In their developer portal means, you have to have a developer access so that you will be able to download the said OS. Anyway, the iOS 4.2 when released publicly, will give the iPad features that it doesn't have that the iPhone 4 has. Plus orientation lock button will be turned into a mute button, permanently.

iPhone Daylight Saving Time bug causing alarms in Europe to fail

This bug concerning the iPhone was already discovered in Australia. It's caused by switching from DST (Daylight Saving Time) to Standard Time. The iPhone's clock correctly change from DST to ST but it's alarm is still set to DST causing it to set off an hour later than expected. Apple has already said that it will be releasing a software fix for this in Australia but has not yet started rolling it out. Now the continent being affected is Europe.

iOS 4.1 security bug discovered - bypass passcode entry

There's a security flaw in the iOS 4.1 discovered that allows people to gain access to you photos, apps, and what not in your iPhone (or any device running on iOS 4.1 for that matter) even if you have a passcode entry in place. And it' pretty simple to bypass by the way.
"How it works: when the passcode entry screen comes up, tap "Emergency Call." Input any number you like, then tap "Call" and click the iPhone's sleep switch in quick succession (to get this to work, I had to perform the two actions almost simultaneously). If you've done the "trick" properly, you should now have full access to the iPhone's Phone app, including contacts, keypad, and calling history. What's more: tapping "Share Contact" and the camera icon will give you access to the Photos app. That's the extent of your access -- hitting the home button doesn't do anything at all -- but it's bad enough."
More bad news, is that Daring Fireball's John Gruber said, that the bug can be done in the iOS 4.2. But Apple is, I think aware of this already, and is doing something about it.

The Apple iPad's orientation lock to be changed permanently to a mute button

Remember iOS 4.2? The iOS bound to change the iPad to basically give the iPad features it should have but doesn't? When that update gets to be officially released one thing that will be changed is a button on the side of the iPad, the Orientation lock button. A button that basically holds your iPad's landscape and portrait view of the screen. In iOS 4.2 that will become a mute button, permanently. Steve Jobs made it very clear that there will be no user configurability, making it permanent. Well unless some hacker would find a way to change all that.

Poll: OS battle which do you prefer?

Come 2011 our world will be filled with mobile Operating Systems that back then we never mind about. We just buy a phone just because it looks nice. Today, smartphones are raining down into the market and are actually selling like hot cakes. Not only do we look at the specs (specifications) of a smartphone that we decide which of them we buy, and of course how it performs, the OS itself is one of, if not the most important, factor that we look at right now. So, with all the mobile operating systems that we can choose which of them you think is better or simply which of them do you prefer?

Apple's Game Center compatible devices - iOS 4.1

Photo grabbed from Endgadget
So you thought, if you upgrade your Apple device to iOS 4.1 you'd get all of the apps and features it is suppose to offer? Nope, that is totally not the case. Take for example Apple's new Game Center which is included in the iOS 4.1 upgrade. Unfortunately not all the iPhone versions/models are included and are compatible with the app. Take out the fist-gen iPhone and the iPhone 3G, they are not included.
The devices that are included or compatible with Apple's Game Center are, the iPhone 4 & 3GS, the iPod Touch 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen, and that's it.

Putting Apple's iPad head to head with Samsung's Galaxy Tab - Read the post for the winner

Photo grabbed from Pocket-lint
Apple set the standards for all tablets with the release of their over-hyped iPad which as more and more tablets are announced and being launched it seems that the iPad, the standard setter is the one who needs to catch up. Is it really Steve Jobs' way of marketing? Letting consumers buy devices that have features/specifications that are then, after the revelation of other companies, essential.
So let's start
Display
The iPad has a screen resolution of 768 x 1,024 pixels with a 9.7 inches multi touch display, this is not to mention that the screen is gorgeous on the iPad.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is smaller than the iPad. Its a 7 inch tablet with a screen resolution of 600 x 1,024 pixels. Not that far from the iPad to think that the Galaxy tab is a full 2 inches smaller. That screen resolution on the Galaxy Tab is vibrant, by the way, and can truly compete with the iPad.
Because of the lower screen resolution on the Galaxy Tab the iPad is ahead on this battle.
Winner: Apple iPad
Size and Weight
Because the iPad is larger we can already say that it will be heavier than that of the Galaxy Tab. The actual dimensions of the iPad are 242.8 x 189.7 x 13.4mm and weighs 680g.
The Galaxy Tab on the other hand, because it is smaller, will be lighter. Its dimensions are 190.09 x 120.45 x 11.98mm and weighs 380g, that's half of the iPad's.
Winner: Samsung Galaxy Tab
Wireless
There are two variants of the iPad, one with and the other has without. In this battle my source used the basic iPad 3G + WiFi which features data-only 3G/HSDPA connectivity, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab packs better wireless features than that of the iPad. 3G/HSDPA connectivity of up to 7.2 Mbps. Plus, the Galaxy Tab is capable of making phone calls via a bluetooth headset and can send and receive SMS/MMS data. Of course, it comes with a better Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11b/g/n WiFi.
Winner: Samsung Galaxy Tab
Storage
Like Apple's iPhone they lack any kind of slot that will allow you to expand your storage memory to more than what is already built-in. So in this battle my source used the same 3G + WiFi variant of the iPad with the basic 16GB memory. So when you have a 16GB iPad you are stuck to that storage capacity basically, forever.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab has a micrSD card slot that can support up to 32GB of expanded memory from its already built in 16GB memory. The Galaxy Tab comes with a 32GB variant. So if you have a 16GB Galaxy Tab plus a microSD card of 32GB then you Galaxy Tab carries 64GB of memory.
Winner: Samsung Galaxy Tab
Camera
As we already know, the iPad does not have any cameras on the device. So i won't say anything more with this battler right here.
The Galaxy Tab has 2 cameras. 1 rear facing which boasts a 3MP lens with LED flash and a front facing camer that's 1.3MP for basic video calling.
Winner: Samsung Galaxy Tab
Battery Life
Apple said that the iPad can last for 10hours and Samsung quoted its tablet to last for 7hours only. Well what would you expect? The Galaxy Tab's smaller and has lesser space for a bigger battery inside it. If this device featured Samsung's Super AMOLED screen then I think in this battler Samsung could have gone away with it.
Winner: Apple iPad
Performance and device Usability
Performance, well what do you know? Both devices breaths the same CPU clock speed. Both have a 1GHz CPU inside it, the A4 processor for the iPad and a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8-based 'Hummingbird' processor for the Galaxy Tab. The Galaxy Tab gets an extra graphical grunt from a PowerVR SGX540 core
The big difference though is the software. The iPad apprently runs on iOS and the Galaxy Tab on Android 2.2 (Froyo) that is today a match, if not better than any other OS out in the market. the iOS just have more apps than the Android but in terms of the usability and performance of the devices they are both equal. Pinch to zoom, double tap to zoom and the general "speediness" of both devices are incomparable.
Winner: Draw
So my source's verdict over this battle?

While the iPad is still the most desirable tablet computer available, the Galaxy Tab will provide some stiff competition. Especially if it's sold at a sub-£300 price point.
Samsung's device can't match the iPad for screen loveliness or battery life. But it steps up the technology battle by including a built-in camera and expandable memory.
With Android rapidly improving and Samsung currently producing some of the best mobile hardware on the planet, the prospects for the Galaxy Tab look bright. As ever, seeing the new device, holding it, surfing the web and watching videos on it will be key.

Overall winner: Samsung Galaxy Tab

Steve Jobs officially introduces iOS 4.1 and give us a preview of Apple's iOS 4.2

Photo grabbed from Unwired View
Probably the highlight of Apple Keynote, no? Oh well, the iOS 4.1 is not a major release but at least it something iOS 4 running devices can be happy and thank Apple for. After Apple's release of the iOS 4 not only did it give some glitches on the devices installed with it it gave iPhone 3G owners a lagger device. My source says that the iPhone 3G lag is fixed with this version of the OS. So iPhone 3G users, or other iPhone users out there that had problems with their phones, all together say, Thank You Steve Jobs!.
It also fixes the proximity and bluetooth glitches it gives to iPhone 3G devices. I do not really know what Proximity means in relation with Apple device but lets just say that I know those things.
Features that were added to the OS can be seen on the photo but let me just write them down. High Dynamic Range photography, what the hell is that? My source say that photography fans should be happy about this.
This setting makes the phone take three shots at different exposure levels, then superimposing them all on top of each other, to create a vibrant end result. This will surely make photography fans happy.
Unwired View
HD Video upload via WiFi is an added feature too. And the Game Center,

It’s all about playing multiplayer games, in real time. Other people can ‘challenge’ you to play games in multiplayer mode, there’s a system that keeps track of your scores, and if you don’t have an opponent to play against, Apple’s servers will auto-match you with someone.

Unwired View

Now about the iOS 4.2 preview. Its basically towards the improvement of the iPad or shoudl we say putting the iPad on par with the iPhones and iPod devices, with regards to its OS. When the iOS 4.2 will be released (November) then the iPads can now do multitasking and folders, which is a key feature of the iOS 4. Another feature that will be added to iOS 4.2 equipped iPads are photo and video streaming will now be possible with the OS.
