The successor to Microsoft's first generation Surface tablets that runs on their very own Windows platform has finally been made official. The software giant from Redmond unveiled them last week, I believe. So, the first tablet is the Surface 2 (left) is, like all upgrades, has specs better than the tablet it precedes, the Surface RT. On the right is the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 which comes with a Haswell Intel Atom processor. Surface 2 will be available starting October 22 for $449 but you can pre-orders yours today.
Surface 2 sports a full HD 1080p display, running on Windows 8, a 1.7GHz nVidia Tegra 4 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a choice between 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, a 5MP rear facing camera, 3.5MP front, and USB 3.0. Of course, the tablet also comes with all the connectivity features you'd normally find in tablets like Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS , and whatnots.
The Surface Pro 2 also runs on Windows 8 and sports a 10.6" Full HD 1080p display, powered by an Intel Atom (Haswell) processor clocked at 1.6GHz with TurboBoost of up to 2.6GHz, 4GB of RAM, 2 720p cameras (front and rear), 64GB of internal storage, and all the other connectivity features too. This device will sell for $899 and like the Surface 2, it will be available starting October 22 and can be pre-ordered today.
For those who will buy these devices will get 200GB of online storage for free for 2 years with Microsoft's very own SkyDrive and also free Skype International calls.
Microsoft also announced lots of new accessories, or upgrades, for these which includes the Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse and keyboards that light up.
